Operation Aware 2024-2025
What is Operation Aware
Operation Aware aims to educate students on goal setting, drug prevention, bullying, and other related topics by sending trained Prevention Educators to schools. The program's goal is to empower students to make positive life choices, enhance their resilience, and increase their awareness of the risks associated with teen substance use.
When will we start/ when will we finish
Your email subject line should include the day and time your educator will be in your classroom.
The program will run for 6 consecutive weeks for approximately 45 min each time. Your program will be enhanced if the educator has access to your smart board for that time period.
If you have a conflict please share with your Operation Aware Educator first. If you have another need or question please contact Jeni Dolan at jdolan@operationaware.org or leave a message at 918-582-7884.
Before your first day, Administer the pre test:
To complete the pretest, students should use a Chromebook. They should take the complete this before the first session. The survey should take around 5 minutes and students should answer the questions to the best of their ability. If students have any questions on how to answer a question, remind them to make an educated guess.
What do I do?
During the weekly lesson time, educators will present the curriculum, answer questions, and facilitate discussions. We do ask that you remain in the classroom but you can work on something else while we present. We've found that students engage better and retain more information when they can focus on the presentation, so we'll ask them to put away any distractions and have only their pencil and name tent on their desks. We will make every effort to maintain order and follow the classroom rules. However, please let me know if you feel that we could do a better job in this regard. I want this to be an enjoyable and valuable experience for both you and your students. Many teachers have also found that they learn more about their students' home lives during Operation Aware.
Can the classroom teacher answer questions about the lessons?
During the presentation time we encourage teachers to connect with their students and we, as prevention educators, are happy to facilitate those interactions. If a students asks a question outside of our presntation time that you feel comfortable answering, please do so. However, you may also encourage students to ask the question during our time together, as other students may have the same question. If a student asks something that you are not able to answer, please reach out to your educator, and they will be happy to provide the information.
After you complete the last session:
Please have the students complete the posttest, and you fill out the teacher feedback survey. This is a crucial step in enhancing the effectiveness and impact of our programs. Feedback from you and your students matters immensely as it provides valuable insights into the strengths of the sessions and areas where we can improve. All responses are completely anonymous, ensuring your privacy. Your honest thoughts and opinions help us fine-tune our approach, adapt to your needs, and continue fostering an environment of growth and empowerment for every student we serve.
Policy for conflicts or holidays:
Operation Aware (OA) generally follows a policy of completing all sessions in-person in consecutive order and remaining open during inclement weather. In case of any conflicts or holidays, the following approach will be taken:
If a teacher or school needs to reschedule a session due to illness, conflict, or distance learning, the OA educator will email a link to a virtual lesson to be completed before the next session. We have very tight schedules and many educators are in the classroom everyday. This will help us stay on track.
If the educator needs to reschedule for illness oe otherwise they will work to reschedule the presentation during a time that is convenient for you.
During inclement weather, if the PE lives in an area where schools are closed but their scheduled classes are in person, they will reach out to you as soon as possible.
It's important to mention that these are general policy, specific details or conditions may vary.
Have additional questions?
Feel free to email your educator; we want this to be an enhancement to your school year.
We are so excited to start learning with you, and thank you again for choosing Operation Aware. Now, let's get learning!
